More than 350 pieces of western art are part of the Art of the American West collection including paintings and prints by western artist Gerry Pierce and a number of significant works such as Oscar Berninghaus' "Riders in the Storm", Eanger I. Couse's "Cooling Water", and Nicolai Fechin (a Russian born artist who came to the West and was taken with its people and scenery) works "Indian with Corn" and "Natalie." In preserving this western collection, the Tucson Museum of Art hopes to provide an opportunity for viewers to experience the wide-open spirit of western art.
