The Tucson Museum of Art has been a collecting museum for more than twenty-five years with more than 7,000 pieces. Our Art of the American West collection comprises of works by such noted artists as Oscar Berninghaus, Eanger I. Couse, and Nicolai Fechin. The Art of the Americas collection contains pre-Columbian works such as the "Stela" of Central Mexico from between 100 B.C. and 250 B.C. as well as retablos and folk art from the Spanish colonial and post-colonial periods. Our Modern and Contemporary collection includes the works of Chuck Close, Marsden Hartley, and Max Weber.
The permanent collection has been enhanced by the acquisition of four important private collections: the Frederick Pleasants Collection of pre-Columbian Art; the Lawrence and Agnes Heller Collection of American and other 20th-Century Modern Art; the Ileen and Samuel Campbell Collection of Art of the American West; and the Small Collection of Contemporary Art.
