The Tucson Museum of Art is committed to enriching the lives of the entire community and extends its programs beyond the limits of the downtown campus. It is proud to participate in many community arts festivals as well as partner with community groups and organizations. The Museum strongly believes collaborative partnerships to help diminish barriers between art and those who may not have easy or direct access to the visual arts.
ArtsTEACH
This week-long, summer professional development opportunity open to all teachers is hosted by the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Theatre Company, UA Presents and the Tucson Museum of Art. Goals include sharing resources and informing teachers of opportunities to infuse classroom teaching with the arts.
UA Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) Teacher Training
Once a year CLAS staff and Museum educators and artists work together to host teacher training workshops in collaboration with exhibitions of Art of Latin America.
Hospital Outreach Program
Since 1996 docents bring art making projects to critically ill children at Tucson Medical Center and University Medical Center between October and May. While dealing with their illness or disability in an unknown environment, children explore creative capabilities; express their feelings; discover ways of seeing and working in the visual arts; and engage in therapeutic social interaction.
The quality of the hospital stay is greatly improved by art making. Children not only feel better being out of their hospital rooms, but they welcome the relief from the otherwise sterile routine.
Memories in the Making PLUS
Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter teams up with the Museum to offer individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias the opportunity to express themselves through discussing art on view in the galleries and art making projects in various media.
Harnessing the process of viewing and creating visual art, these individuals will be able to communicate—even if some may no longer be able to speak—and in doing so share the essence of themselves.
