Judy Miller, Outtake #29, Scarlett, pigment print
To create her uncanny photo-composites, Judy Miller first photographs figures from wax museums all over the world and sutures them into landscapes and interior scenes photographed from disparate locations. The result of her clever computer manipulations create alternate worlds one writer describes as “Twilight Zone interiors” and “mythological landmarks from an undiscovered civilization.” The frozen stances and impeccable attire of the figures belie the flaws of their maker, while the eerie stereotypical settings in which they are placed further reinforce the disquieting qualities of the scenes portrayed.
