Thanks for Being With Us: Contemporary Art from the Douglas Nielsen Collection

Working in a profession where the art is ephemeral and experiential, Douglas Nielsen, resident choreographer and dance professor at the University of Arizona, has amassed an impressive collection of contemporary art over the last forty years. In each work, Nielsen’s passion for art and how it conveys creative thought is apparent.

Among the many works included in this exhibition are such nationally prominent photographers as Annie Leibovitz, Herb Ritts, Cindy Sherman, Elliott Erwitt, Diane Arbus, Danny Lyon, and Nan Goldin. Other artists include Ed Ruscha, represented by five lithographs in his signature style of text and symbol; John Baldessari, who melds figurative compositions with architectural icons and symbols; and Barbara Kruger, who pairs image and text.

This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see a large body of works by internationally renowned artists brought together as a result of the personal vision of one who has made it his life’s pursuit to enhance his life with beauty and creative expression.
