SUMMARY:TMA NightShift: Biennial Threads
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Arizona 2026 Biennial exhibition and connect with Biennial fiber Artist Wendy Raisanen by joining an embroidery circle to create herbal sachets. \nThis embroidery sachet drop-in workshop is a relaxing and creative craft session where you learn basic hand-embroidery stitches to decorate a small fabric pouch. You then fill the stitched bag with lavender or other dried herbs from Monsoon Mystics while enjoying tea and pastries from local vendors. \nPlease note that this is not a class with formal instruction; rather\, it’s an opportunity to stitch in community. Some experience with hand sewing is helpful but not required. \nDuring this casual gathering\, you’ll have access to hand mending tools and materials\, like scissors\, needles\, thread\, embroidery floss\, and fabric scraps. Wendy will be available to offer suggestions and advice if you get stuck or aren’t sure how to get started. \nAbout Wendy Raisanen: \nWendy Raisanen is a fiber artist living in Phoenix. She has been making art\, painting\, and sewing since she was a child. Upcycling clothes\, designing and sewing garments\, painting\, and making art quilts make up her current art practice. She is also the curator of exhibitions for Scottsdale Public Art. \nThis program is part of NightShift\, TMA’s after-hours series that brings art\, creativity\, and community together. SUMMARY:MOCA x TMA Art Talks: Joel Gaitan & Naomi Ortiz
DESCRIPTION:Two museums. One conversation. This new collaborative series from the Museum of Contemporary Art Tucson and the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block convenes artists from current exhibitions with members of Tucson’s creative community. \nJoin from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block (140 N. Main Ave.\, in Mooney Hall) for a conversation between Joel Gaitan and Naomi Ortiz\, both currently featured in TMA’s exhibition Fierce Bodies. \nJoel Gaitan: Exploring identity\, spirituality\, and the stories carried through ancestry\, I use hand-built clay techniques passed down through generations\, combining them with the symbols\, gestures\, and imagery that shaped my upbringing. I create sculptures that blend humor\, devotion\, and everyday life\, moving between the earthly and the supernatural. Through my figures\, I honor the people and traditions that came before me while imagining new worlds rooted in memory\, ritual\, and ancestral storytelling. I work across sculpture\, installation\, and mixed media\, building pieces that feel both personal and universal. \nNaomi Ortiz (they/them) is a Disabled Mestize poet\, visual artist\, and author of two books\, most recently\, Rituals for Climate Change: A Crip Struggle for Ecojustice. They are also a co-editor of the international anthology\, Every Place on the Map is Disabled: Poems and Essays. Ortiz is a Reclaiming the U.S.-Mexico Border Narrative Awardee and a United States Artists Disability Futures Fellow. Through their multidisciplinary work\, they invite people to imagine how self-care\, disability justice\, climate action\, and other relational practices create a collective future. NaomiOrtiz.com \nRegister Here \n\nDos museos.
