Through a multidisciplinary approach\, we will encourage participants to navigate the complex emotions associated with loss while considering the timeless nature of art. After reflecting on the themes of foundations\, transformations\, and expansions lifted up in the exhibit\, we will gather for a facilitated group discussion and individual collage art projects to integrate our personal discoveries about the intersections of art\, growth\, death\, and showing up for life. Her passion for her work stems from the desire to bring people home to themselves\, so that their finite time on Earth is as full and present as possible. \nUpon request\, American Sign Language interpretation for workshops can be provided. SUMMARY:Docent Art Talk: The Emergence of Metamodernism in Contemporary Art | La Aparición del Metamodernismo en el Arte Contemporáneo
DESCRIPTION:Researched and Presented by Keith White \nSomething new…something important…is happening in the Contemporary Art world. \nIt is the emergence of Metamodernism. Throughout history\, Art has often heralded a change in cultural paradigms. This occurred with Modernism\, Postmodernism and now with Metamodernism. Still in its infancy\, Metamodernism “oscillates” between the naïve optimism of Modernism and the skepticism of Postmodernism. It thereby attempts to hold BOTH the sincerity and idealism associated with Modernism AND the cynicism and relativism associated with Postmodernism in order to create something new. To help grasp this BOTH/AND approach\, this Art Talk will briefly introduce representative artworks from both the Modern and Postmodern periods before considering contemporary Metamodern art. \nArt Talks are $5 for non-members; free for TMA members and students with ID. \nThe elevator to the Alice Chaiten Baker Center for Art Education is temporarily out of order. The building remains accessible through the entrance located on the south side of the building along Alameda\, the door is labeled “166.” Please call 520-616-2692 for assistance. \nImage Credit: Still from Ragnar Kjartansson\, “World Light – The Life and Death of an Artist\,” 2015\, four-channel video installation\, color\, sound. \nCrédito de Imagen: Fotograma de Ragnar Kjartansson\, “World Light – The Life and Death of an Artist”\, 2015\, videoinstalación de cuatro canales\, color y sonido.
