During the program\, Mauro Trejo IV\, Los Descendientes board member and MexAm Museum volunteer will share insights on various aspects of Tucson’s history. Mariachi Las Aguilitas is a K-5 grade mariachi group that has existed for over 30 years in Tucson\, Arizona. \nRed Herring Puppets present The Friendly Chupacabra\nBonnie Bradford Courtyard 1p.m.\nRed Herring Puppets present The Friendly Chupacabra / El Chupacabra Amigable\, a bilingual puppet performance based on tales from Mexico\, Central America\, and the Caribbean. This legendary creature invokes fear and wonder\, but in our telling\, a brave girl and her goat tame the lonely beast with friendship. The show features a colorful scrolling backdrop\, hand-crafted puppets\, and original music and vocals by members of Tucson’s Las Azaleas mariachi band. The show is funded in part by the Jim Henson Foundation and the Arts Foundation of Tucson and Southern Arizona. \nRed Herring Puppets\, have toured nationally for many years. They’ve been featured at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta\, NYC’s International Puppet Fringe Festival\, Boston’s Puppet Showplace\, Cleveland’s Maltz Museum\, Open Eye Theatre in Minneapolis\, and The Great Arizona Puppet Theatre in Phoenix. Their work has earned a California Emmy\, a Telly Award\, and an UNIMA Citation of Excellence\, the highest honor in American puppetry. They captured everyday life in their portraits\, still lifes and landscapes. The movement fell out of critical favor but continues to influence contemporary art. Organized by TMA’s Museum Store\, the event is an annual fundraiser for Southern Arizona’s oldest visual arts institution located in downtown Tucson\, Arizona. \nPay-What-You-Wish Admission\nOn Friday\, February 28 through Sunday\, March 2 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.\, museum admission is pay-what-you-wish. Panelists include Alanna Airitam\, artist; Mindy N. Besaw\, Director of Fellowships\, Research\, and University Partnerships\, and curator\, American Art at Crystal Bridges; Dwayne Manuel\, artist\, educator\, and community curator; and Alisha Vasquez\, co-director of the Mexican American Heritage and History Museum and community curator. \nFree for members and students with ID and $5 for non-members. \nThis project was supported by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. \n \n  \n  \n  \nAccessibility\nUpon request\, American Sign Language interpretation for lectures can be provided.
