DESCRIPTION:On the first Thursday of every month the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block offers extended hours and pay-what-you-wish admission from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. These evenings feature emerging and established food vendors\, unique art- making and gallery experiences\, and music! \nOn April 3rd explore the feature exhibition Divergence of Legacy: Art of the American West in the 21st Century. At 5:30 p.m. -7 p.m. attend a panel discussion with artists\, curators\, and cultural workers on the topic of creativity\, experimentation\, history\, and culture in the Stonewall Foundation Community Room (register here). An enrolled citizen of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe\, Romero was raised between contrasting settings: the rural Chemehuevi reservation in Mojave Desert\, CA and the urban sprawl of Houston\, TX. Romero’s identity informs her photography\, a blend of fine art and editorial photography\, shaped by years of study and a visceral approach to representing Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural memory\, collective history\, and lived experiences from a Native American female perspective. \nThis event is at capacity. The free talks were started and continue to be given by Trejo’s Tucson Walking Tours\, during the program Mauro Trejo IV\, Los Descendientes board member and MexAm Museum volunteer\, will share insights on various aspects of Tucson’s history. On Thursday\, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. join Mauro for an overview of utilities and infrastructure in territorial Tucson. \nThese History Socials celebrate the rich history and diverse culture of Tucson and the surrounding region and will form part of a year-long celebration honoring over 4\,000 years of history\, heritage\, and culture in Tucson and Pima County.
