La arcilla puede ser blanda o dura, porosa o v\u00edtrea (una apariencia de vidrio), templada con minerales brillantes o trozos triturados de cer\u00e1mica rota y sellada para retener el agua, no absorbida sino llenada en su cuerpo, esperando ser vertida. Cuando se cuece, la arcilla &quot;dif\u00edcil&quot; puede encogerse, agrietarse o incluso estallar, siendo tan fr\u00e1gil como fuerte. La arcilla sirve como superficie para el dise\u00f1o; su forma y textura a menudo determinan el curso y la fluidez del pincel de un alfarero y las formas que emergen de \u00e9l. m\u00e1s que lo que la mayor\u00eda de nosotros llamamos tierra: con arcilla\u201d.\u00a0<em>Hablando con Clay. El arte de la cer\u00e1mica pueblo<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Describir el arte de la cer\u00e1mica ind\u00edgena como un \u201cmilagro dif\u00edcil\u201d es transmitir su dualidad como una forma de arte que es a la vez fugaz e incre\u00edblemente resistente. Mientras reflexiono sobre mi tiempo en el Museo de Arte de Tucson (marzo de 2022 \u2013 marzo de 2023) como investigadora y sobre los momentos que pas\u00f3 en compa\u00f1\u00eda de las vasijas hist\u00f3ricas, a nuestro cuidado. No parece haber mejor manera de honrar la materialidad vibrante y la historia viva de la cer\u00e1mica que a trav\u00e9s del reconocimiento del <i>milagro dificil<\/i> de su componente m\u00e1s esencial: la arcilla. La misma que es recogida de la tierra y preparada, cuidadosamente, mediante un extenso proceso de secado, remojo y amasado. La arcilla se convierte en un recipiente en las manos del alfarero: un cuerpo vivo que respira con una historia propia. Durante el a\u00f1o pasado, el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n, cuidado de colecciones y participaci\u00f3n comunitaria de TMA estudi\u00f3, cuidadosamente, estas vasijas y se pregunt\u00f3 acerca de sus historias. Si bien han surgido ciertas pistas sobre estas historias (sobre todos los aspectos de su material de composici\u00f3n y restos visibles del paso del tiempo), otras narrativas espirales m\u00e1s \u00edntimas han permanecido fuera de nuestro alcance.<\/p>\n<p>Lo que la arcilla revela de s\u00ed misma es la evidencia de su resiliencia. La arcilla puede ser blanda o dura, porosa o v\u00edtrea (una apariencia de vidrio), templada con minerales brillantes o trozos triturados de cer\u00e1mica rota y sellada para retener el agua, no absorbida sino llenada en su cuerpo, esperando ser vertida. Cuando se cuece, la arcilla \u201cdif\u00edcil\u201d puede encogerse, agrietarse o incluso estallar, siendo tan fr\u00e1gil como fuerte. La arcilla sirve como superficie para el dise\u00f1o; su forma y textura a menudo determinan el curso y la fluidez del pincel de un alfarero y las formas que emergen de \u00e9l. Sin embargo, la resiliencia de la arcilla es tambi\u00e9n su terquedad, su dificultad y su determinaci\u00f3n. La alfarera de Santa Clara, Rose Naranjo una vez caracteriz\u00f3 la fuerza espiritual de la arcilla como una forma creativa de ego\u00edsmo y dijo: \u201cla arcilla es muy ego\u00edsta. La arcilla se formar\u00e1 en lo que esta quiere ser\u201d. As\u00ed como la arcilla se autodetermina en el proceso de alcanzar su forma final, guiando la intuici\u00f3n del alfarero, la arcilla tambi\u00e9n ha guiado el ritmo de nuestra investigaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Nos ha llevado a descubrir brillantes rastros de mica que iluminan la superficie de una vasija ancestral Hohokam, brillando a trav\u00e9s de nubes de fuego oscuros; ha atra\u00eddo nuestra atenci\u00f3n hacia trazos horribles de pintura vidriada que recorren el cuerpo de una vasija de R\u00edo Grande y hacia la superficie estampada de una vasija de agua de Acoma, articulada en sus curvas de l\u00edneas finas, formas geom\u00e9tricas y motivos vegetales. A pesar de todo lo que la arcilla nos ha obligado a ver, tambi\u00e9n se ha retirado silenciosamente, ciertas historias y recuerdos guardados para s\u00ed mismos, no destinadas a que las conozcamos ni accesibles, a trav\u00e9s de m\u00e9todos tradicionales en la investigaci\u00f3n de colecciones. En mi opini\u00f3n, esta quietud es el dif\u00edcil milagro del barro.
