DESCRIPTION:On the first Thursday of every month the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block offers extended hours and pay-what-you-wish admission from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. These evenings feature emerging and established food vendors\, unique art-making and gallery experiences\, music\, community partners and more! \nOn December’s First Thursday explore the Arizona Biennial 2024 and ideas of community throughout the campus. The evening will also include a cash bar serving beer and wine\, art and gallery activities led by Ami and Laila\, music by Sopitas and MizSkoden and the opportunity to shop from local maker Sui Gen Femme and potters from Romero House Potters. \nThrough early 2025\, TMA will host the Mexican American Heritage and History Museum’s monthly history social during First Thursdays while the Sosa-Carrillo House is closed for remodel. During the program\, Mauro Trejo IV\, Los Descendientes board member and MexAm Museum volunteer will share insights on various aspects of Tucson’s history. This 30-minute program (register here) will spotlight aspects of Tucson’s history and create space for community dialogue. \nFirst Thursday is presented by an anonymous donor. \nRegister Here \n\nEl primer jueves de cada mes\, el Museo de Arte y Bloque Histórico de Tucson ofrece horarios extendidos y entrada de pago-lo-que-desea desde las 5 p. m. hasta las 8 p.m. ¡Estas noches cuentan con vendedores de comida\, experiencias únicas de creación de arte y galerías\, música\, colaboraciones comunitarias y más! \nEl primer jueves de diciembre explora la Bienal de Arizona 2024 y las ideas de comunidad en todo el campus. Children of all ages are invited to join her Nutcracker ballet class and to hear the enchanting story of The Nutcracker. – 11 a.m.-12 p.m. \nGet your picture taken with Santa in the museum’s Creative Space. The museum will provide Intax instant photos and will give you the opportunity to take your own pictures on your own devices. –  12 p.m.-2 p.m. \nArizona Women’s Chorus will perform a blend of seasonal-themed music and holiday-inspired tunes in the museum galleries. – 1 p.m.-2 p.m. \nRusalka: the Littlest Mermaid by the Arizona Opera\, 12p.m.- 1 p.m.\nBonnie Bradford Courtyard\nJoin us at the Tucson Museum of Art for Rusalka: The Littlest Mermaid during Second SundAZe! This charming adaptation takes audiences on a magical journey as Rusalka\, a young mermaid\, dreams of becoming human to follow her heart. When her pact with the Sea Witch forces her to give up her voice\, Rusalka’s chance at love is put in peril. Unlike the original story\, this version ends on a hopeful note\, as our heroes’ risk everything to become who they were always meant to be. Finally\, we will examine his impact on 20th and 21rst Century modern artists such as Picasso and Matisse. Obviously\, Paul Cézanne is much more than just apples! \nArt Talks are $5 for non-members; free for TMA members and students with ID. \nThe elevator to the Alice Chaiten Baker Center for Art Education is temporarily out of order.
