DESCRIPTION:On the first Thursday of every month the Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block offers extended hours and pay-what-you-wish admission from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. These evenings feature emerging and established food vendors\, unique art-making and gallery experiences\, and music! \nJoin TMA on February 6th for an evening focused on collaboration and collective creativity. Purchase food from CowPig\, enjoy a cash bar serving beer and wine\, participate in art and gallery activities led by Ami and Laila\, and enjoy a performance by Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Quintet. \nThrough early 2025\, TMA will host the Mexican American Heritage and History Museum’s monthly history social during First Thursdays while the Sosa-Carrillo House is closed for remodel. During the program\, Mauro Trejo IV\, Los Descendientes board member and MexAm Museum volunteer will share insights on various aspects of Tucson’s history. This 30-minute program (register here) will spotlight aspects of Tucson’s history and create space for community dialogue. \nFirst Thursday is presented by an anonymous donor. Mariachi Las Aguilitas is a K-5 grade mariachi group that has existed for over 30 years in Tucson\, Arizona. \nRed Herring Puppets present The Friendly Chupacabra\nBonnie Bradford Courtyard 1p.m.\nRed Herring Puppets present The Friendly Chupacabra / El Chupacabra Amigable\, a bilingual puppet performance based on tales from Mexico\, Central America\, and the Caribbean. This legendary creature invokes fear and wonder\, but in our telling\, a brave girl and her goat tame the lonely beast with friendship. The show features a colorful scrolling backdrop\, hand-crafted puppets\, and original music and vocals by members of Tucson’s Las Azaleas mariachi band. The show is funded in part by the Jim Henson Foundation and the Arts Foundation of Tucson and Southern Arizona. \nRed Herring Puppets\, have toured nationally for many years. They’ve been featured at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta\, NYC’s International Puppet Fringe Festival\, Boston’s Puppet Showplace\, Cleveland’s Maltz Museum\, Open Eye Theatre in Minneapolis\, and The Great Arizona Puppet Theatre in Phoenix. Their work has earned a California Emmy\, a Telly Award\, and an UNIMA Citation of Excellence\, the highest honor in American puppetry. Red Herring is an Artistic Associate at Tucson’s Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre. \nSecond SundAZe is presented by The Stonewall Foundation Fund held at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. They captured everyday life in their portraits\, still lifes and landscapes. The movement fell out of critical favor but continues to influence contemporary art. DESCRIPTION:TMA’s Spring Artisans Market feature more than 100 unique and local artists and artisans with crafts\, original artwork\, pottery\, glass\, jewelry\, textiles\, and gift items in an outdoor street fair setting. Organized by TMA’s Museum Store\, the event is an annual fundraiser for Southern Arizona’s oldest visual arts institution located in downtown Tucson\, Arizona. \nPay-What-You-Wish Admission\nOn Friday\, February 28 through Sunday\, March 2 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.\, museum admission is pay-what-you-wish. The amount you pay for admission is up to you! All visitors and members are encouraged to make a voluntary donation for general admission. \nParking\nPlenty of street parking\, garages\, and parking lots are available near the museum. Get in early and use the Paseo Redondo lot\, which will be free to visitors during the event.
