TUCSON, ARIZONA (February 29, 2016) – The Tucson Museum of Art’s (TMA) annual spring meeting on how to become a Museum docent will be held twice: Tuesday, March 22 at 10:30 AM in the TMA lobby and Wednesday, March 23 at 3:15 PM at the Joyner-Green Valley Library, 601 N. La Canada Drive in Green Valley. TMA docents connect art to life for Museum visitors of all ages. TMA docents also extend art education into the community through Art Talks at branch libraries and through art projects for more than 10,000 students in Tucson schools throughout the area each year.
“For more than 55 years TMA docents have been the main force for art education in the greater Tucson area,” said Morgan Wells, Curator of Education. “One of our dedicated docents was recently recognized for personally reaching an estimated one million Tucson school children during her time working with the In-School program which takes art into classrooms at no cost to the schools.”
“We hope to find new community members who want to enrich the world through art education,” added Debbie Wallace, Docent and TMA Docent Publicity Chair.
RSVP for the 10:30 AM meeting at TMA by Monday, March 21, to 520-624-2333, ext. 121 or education@TucsonMuseumofArt.org.
In the past 12 months, TMA docents have brought art to:
- 11,346 students through the In-School program
- 2,032 adults and 2,653 students from kindergarten through Museum exhibit tours
- 3,500 residents in Green Valley and Tucson through Docent Art Talks
