On May’s First Thursday explore the feature exhibitions Popol Vuh and Maya Art of Storytelling, join us for an artist talk by Justin Favela at 5:00 p.m. in the Stonewall Community Room (registration required), and then participate in Justin Favela’s Family Fiesta in conjunction with First Thursday.
The evening will feature art and gallery activities, led by Ami and Laila, live marimba music by Amilcar Guevara and Homero Cerón, food for purchase from OaxaRico, and a cash bar serving beer and wine.
Family Fiesta is a party with Justin Favela’s family! In this performance, the public is encouraged to participate in the celebration firsthand by enjoying food, drinks, music, playing games and piñata time in an outdoor setting. In Family Fiesta the event is taken out of its traditional context (a cookout in a backyard or a park) to unconventional locations seeking to highlight people’s expectations of a fiesta, and at the same time, dismantling notions of place and institutional inclusion.

En el primer jueves de mayo explore las exhibiciones especiales Popol Vuh and Maya Art of Storytelling, y acompáñenos en la charla de artista con Justin Favela a las 5:00 p.m. en el Salón Comunitario de Stonewall (regístrese aquí), y luego participe en la Fiesta Familiar de Justin Favela como parte del Primer Jueves.
La Noche contará con actividades de arte y galería, dirigidas por Ami y Laila, música de marimba en vivo de Amílcar Guevara y Homero Cerón, comida para compra de OaxaRico y una barra de efectivo que sirve cerveza y vino.
¡Family Fiesta es una fiesta con la familia de Justin Favela! En este espectáculo, se invita al público a participar en la celebración de primera mano disfrutando de comidas, bebidas, música, juegos y piñatas en un ambiente al aire libre. En Family Fiesta, se saca el evento de su contexto tradicional (Una parrillada en un patio o en un parque) a lugares no convencionales buscando resaltar las expectativas de la gente sobre una fiesta, y al mismo tiempo, desmantelando las nociones de lugar e inclusión institucional.
