Summer Art Camp 2021

TMA Summer Art Camp is a unique camp for artists ages 4–13 inspired by the permanent collections and exhibitions at Tucson Museum of Art.

Summer Art Camp teaches art-making techniques like painting, printmaking and collage while guiding kids to think and talk about bigger ideas, like telling their personal stories with visual media and noticing the patterns and rhythms of nature. It provides rich art experiences for kids while supporting working adults.

Health and Safety Procedures

Each session is limited to 40 students spread among four classrooms. Sessions are full-day only to reduce the number of people coming and going, and no drop-in participants will be accepted. Pre-registration is required on a first come, first served basis.

As a licensed child care provider, we follow all rules and regulations put out by the Arizona Department of Health Services, Pima County Health Department and the CDC. Here are some of the procedures we will follow:

  • All child sign-in and sign-out occurs at the east entrance to the Alice Chaiten Baker Center for Art Education on Court Avenue. Parents and guardians may not enter the classrooms.
  • Students and staff are asked to wear masks at all times.
  • Class sizes are limited to 10 or fewer in order to maintain 6 feet of distance during all activities.
  • Hand washing occurs regularly throughout the day (sinks are available in all classrooms).
  • Teachers and administration staff sanitize surfaces and materials regularly throughout the day, in addition to the start and end of every day.
  • We check the temperature of all children and camp staff upon arrival. If your child has a temperature above 99.6 F,  they will need to be fever free without medication for 72 hours before returning to camp. Children with a cough or any other symptoms of illness should remain at home. The same standards are enforced for staff.
  • Parents and chaperones will not be allowed in the building. We ask that only one adult drop off and pick up to limit the number of adults near entrances.
  • Adults are asked to remain 6 feet apart. This includes camp staff and teachers.
  • If you need to communicate with someone in the office, please use phone or email.

In this class we will try and see just how far we can go with a piece of paper. Students will have a chance to make their own paper, marbleize paper, learn classic origami techniques, build masks out of paper, learn some bookmaking techniques and try many more experimental approaches that work with paper. Throughout the class we will look at classic traditional approaches as well as contemporary ideas. You’ll never look at a piece of paper the same way again.
