Docent Art Talk: Not Just a Horse – The Art and Life of Luis Jimenez

December 14 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Researched and presented by Mary Jo McMullen

Luis Jimenez grew up in El Paso, Texas and his art reflects the west with a Latino perspective.  He referred to himself as a Chicano Pop Artist and said he was not a western artist, although his work certainly reflected his experiences in a border town.  His use of fiberglass and neon for his sculptures was a deliberate decision to bring art to the average person.  He said “I have an agenda. – art that reaches out to Chicanos and a working-class audience, that helps them celebrate their culture and history.”

Art Talks are $5 for non-members; free for TMA members and students with ID.
