The Tucson Museum of Art and Historic Block (TMA) is proud to present Arizona Biennial 2026, a highly anticipated exhibition celebrating contemporary artists from across the state. On view May 22 through September 27, 2026, in the James J. and Louise R. Glasser and Earl Kai Chann Galleries, this exhibition highlights the diverse voices, perspectives, and practices of artists living and working throughout Arizona.
The Arizona Biennial is the longest-running statewide juried exhibition in Arizona, and it has served as a platform for presenting innovative work in a variety of media, while offering audiences insight into the evolving artistic landscape of the Southwest. For each Biennial, a new juror is chosen to select the works and create a cohesive exhibition. The 2026 exhibition is juried by Julie Rodrigues Widholm, the executive director of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) at UC Berkeley.
“Serving as a juror for the Arizona Biennial was a genuinely exciting opportunity to take in the creative breadth across the state and deepen my sense of what’s happening in the Southwest,” Rodrigues Widholm said. “The selection process itself was unexpectedly liberating by curating an exhibition based solely on images and artist statements in a space unfamiliar to me. I typically come to curatorial decisions with deep familiarity with the work, the artists, and the venue, so being asked to respond to the work on its own visual terms brought a focus and freedom I found invigorating. Unexpected resonances emerged across the selections, which have informed how the exhibition took shape. I look forward to meeting the artists and seeing the artworks in the galleries in May.”
Through this long-standing exhibition, TMA continues its mission of connecting art to life, amplifying the latest work by a range of living artists while highlighting the cultural vitality and defining issues shaping the region today.
The exhibition will be accompanied by related public programs and opportunities to engage with participating artists throughout the run of the show.

El Museo de Arte de Tucson y Bloque Histórico (TMA) se enorgullece de presentar la Bienal de Arizona 2026, una exhibición muy esperada que celebra a artistas contemporáneos de todo el estado. En exhibición del 22 de mayo al 27 de septiembre de 2026 en las Galerías James J. y Louise R. Glasser y Earl Kai Chann, esta exhibición destaca las diversas voces, perspectivas y prácticas de artistas que viven y trabajan en todo Arizona.
La Bienal de Arizona es la exhibición con jurado de mayor trayectoria en todo el estado de Arizona, y ha servido como plataforma para presentar obras innovadoras en una variedad de medios, al tiempo que ofrece al público una visión del cambiante panorama artístico del Suroeste. Para cada bienal, se elige a un nuevo jurado encargado de seleccionar las obras y conformar una exhibición cohesiva. La edición de 2026 cuenta con la curaduría de Julie Rodrigues Widholm, directora ejecutiva del Museo de Arte de Berkeley y Archivo Cinematográfico del Pacífico (BAMPFA) de la Universidad de California en Berkeley.
“Servir como jurado de la Bienal de Arizona fue una oportunidad verdaderamente apasionante para apreciar la amplitud creativa de todo el estado y profundizar mi percepción de lo que está sucediendo en el Suroeste”, comentó Rodrigues Widholm. “El proceso de selección en sí resultó inesperadamente liberador, al tener que curar una exhibición basándome únicamente en imágenes y declaraciones de los artistas, y en un espacio que me resultaba desconocido. Por lo general, abordo las decisiones curatoriales con un profundo conocimiento de las obras, de los artistas y del recinto; por ello, el hecho de tener que responder a las obras en sus propios términos visuales me aportó un enfoque y una libertad que encontré sumamente estimulantes. Surgieron resonancias inesperadas entre las obras seleccionadas, las cuales han influido en la forma en que la exhibición fue tomando cuerpo. Espero con gran interés conocer a los artistas y ver las obras de arte en las galerías en mayo”.
A través de esta exhibición de larga trayectoria, el TMA continúa su misión de vincular el arte con la vida, dando difusión a las obras más recientes de una diversidad de artistas vivos, al tiempo que destaca la vitalidad cultural y las cuestiones definitorias que configuran la región en la actualidad.
La exhibición estará acompañada de programas públicos relacionados y oportunidades para interactuar con los artistas participantes a lo largo de la duración de la muestra.
