Latin American Folk Art

At the Tucson Museum of Art, over 4,000 works of Latin American Folk Art represent popular traditions from many regions of the Americas. This new installation in the museum’s Schmidt Gallery explores how those traditions evolve and take on new meanings in a changing world, offering artists pathways for expressing their ideals, remembering historical moments, and building community. Highlighted in this exhibition, a new gift of art from the Peruvian highlands by collectors Bill and Cheryl Green shows how artists use traditional forms to offer poignant takes on a violent period in Perú’s recent history.

Arte Popular de Latinoamérica

En el Tucson Museum of Art, más de 4,000 obras de arte popular de Latinoamérica representan las tradiciones populares de muchas regiones de las américas. Esta nueva instalación en la galería Schmidt explora cómo esas tradiciones evolucionan y toman nuevos significados en un mundo en constante cambio, ofreciendo a los artistas oportunidades para expresar sus ideales, recordar momentos históricos y crear comunidades. Se destaca en esta exhibición una donación de arte peruano hecha por los coleccionistas Bill y Cheryl Green, la cual muestra cómo los artistas usan las formas tradicionales para comentar un periodo violento en la historia reciente del Perú.
